The AI assistant
Describe a strategy in a sentence, run it, then have the result explained.
The assistant turns an idea into executable rules, and rules into results. It is available from the composer on Home, inside any conversation, and in the assistant rail beside the chart.
Ask and Agent#
The composer has a mode switch:
- ask — answers questions and explains; it does not change strategies or run backtests
- agent — can write strategies, create indicators, start backtests and return cards
The default lives in Settings → AI. Switching is immediate and keeps your draft.
Three starting points#
Home puts three starters above the composer:
| Starter | What you get |
|---|---|
| Automated backtest | Executable rules plus a run over the full history |
| Create indicator | A custom indicator, saved to your library and the chart picker |
| Create strategy | The rules themselves, before anything is run |
Picking a starter states the goal for that turn. The input stays empty — you can also skip them and describe what you want.
Home: the composer with agent mode selected, the three starters above it, and the symbol/timeframe target row visible. A believable sentence in the input.
From one sentence to a rule card#
For example:
On EURUSD daily, go long when the 20 EMA crosses above the 50 EMA, exit on the opposite cross, 1% risk per trade
The result is a spec card with three groups:
- Entry when (all) — conditions that must all hold
- Session (UTC) — trading hours, when the rules include them
- Exit when (any) — any one of these closes the trade
Thresholds and periods are computed and validated by the engine. The model translates your sentence and names the strategy; it does not invent numbers.
A spec card for a real strategy: the Entry when (all) and Exit when (any) groups, and the Run backtest / Adopt as a strategy buttons underneath.
Run a backtest#
On the spec card:
- Run backtest / Run again — runs the full history with your cost assumptions
- Adopt as a strategy — saves these rules to the library; on a later version of the same strategy the button reads Adopt as v2
The result card then shows, top to bottom:
- The assumptions: starting balance, commission, spread, leverage, financing, settlement currency
- The metric grid: net P&L, return, win rate, profit factor, max drawdown, trades, and a buy-and-hold reference
- Trades (N) — opens the trade-by-trade panel
- Open in chart — materializes the run as a manual session you can replay
The card's footnote states the conventions too: signals execute at the next bar open, every fill pays commission and spread, overnight positions pay financing. The definitions travel with the number instead of hiding in settings.
Trades and stability#
Trades (N) opens the trade list. Above it, four readings describe how much the result depends on a few trades:
| Reading | Question |
|---|---|
| Carried by | What share of the result the best trades carry; what is left after removing the best tenth |
| Path, reordered | The same trades in a different order: median, 95th percentile and worst drawdown |
| Redrawn | The range from 2,000 resamples, and how many of them end down |
| By period | Net and trade count by year |
"The best five trades carry 195% of the result" means the strategy loses money without them. Below about 20 trades the distribution is not shown, and the panel says why rather than drawing a shape that is only noise.
Ask it to explain#
A run is followed by the assistant's reading of it: why it lost, where the drawdown happened, which parameter is worth changing next. The text streams in as it is written.
Keep going in the same conversation:
- "Add a 2% stop and run it again"
- "Why did 2022 go so badly?"
- "How would this do on GBPUSD?"
Every follow-up produces new cards; earlier results stay where they are.
Infer rules from your own trading#
If you have already traded by hand in the chart, the assistant rail offers Turn into a strategy:
- It reads the closed positions
- It infers entries, exits, direction and sizing
- It returns a spec card
A minimum number of positions is required. Run the backtest straight away: the point is to check that what it understood matches what you did.
Credits and plan limits#
AI is billed in credits, not messages:
- Generating a strategy or an indicator: 10
- Running a backtest: 5
- Explaining a result: 5
A full generate → run → explain loop is 20 credits. Free includes 200 a month, roughly ten loops; Pro includes 1,000; Max 4,000. Remaining credits sit at the top of the account menu and in Settings → Billing, and refill at the start of the next period.
Backtests also hit plan limits: on Free a run stops at 10 trades, and the result card says where it stopped instead of showing a result that looks complete.
Next#
Once a rule survives verification it should outlive the conversation: “Strategies and indicators” covers saving, versioning and exporting.
