Quick start

Two complete runs in five minutes: one traded by hand, one run by the assistant.

Two complete runs, both short: one you trade by hand in the replay, one the assistant runs from a sentence. Neither needs a paid plan, and everything after this chapter fills in the details.

Run 1 — backtest a chart by hand#

  1. On Home, press New backtesting.
  2. In the dialog, pick one asset and keep the window short — a month is plenty. Leave the costs as they are; the next chapter is about them. Press Start.
  3. The chart opens in replay. Press Space or hold → to move the clock, then use Buy or Sell in the replay bar, with a size in the box beside them.
  4. Let a few bars pass, then open the position's row menu in the Positions panel and choose Close.
  5. Skip past the end of the window, or keep stepping. The replay finishes with a settlement dialog — press Open report.

That is one complete manual backtest: a window, two orders, an exit, and a report with its P&L, return, drawdown and win rate — plus the assumption row that says what those numbers mean.

The whole manual loop in one take: press Space, place a Buy with the size box, advance a few bars, close the position from the row menu. Crop to the chart plus the replay bar and positions panel.

One clock, one order, one exit — the shape of every manual backtest.

Run 2 — let the assistant backtest one#

  1. Back on Home, check the composer is in agent mode.
  2. Describe a strategy in one line. For example: "Test EURUSD daily: go long when the 20 EMA crosses above the 50 EMA, exit on the opposite cross, 1% risk per trade."
  3. Send it. The reply is a spec card — the entry and exit rules it understood — with Run backtest on it.
  4. Press Run backtest. A result card comes back with the metric grid and the assumptions it ran under.
  5. Ask a follow-up — "add a 2% stop", "why did 2022 go so badly" — and the next card builds on the last.

That is one complete automated backtest: a sentence, rules you can read, a run over the whole window, and a result. Same engine and same cost assumptions as the manual run you just did.

One result card, whole: the assumptions line at the top, the metric grid, then Trades (N) and Open in chart. Use a run with enough trades to fill the grid.

Where to go next#

The two runs are the product in miniature. Pick the chapter that matches what you want to do next:

  • Charts and replay — the chart, the replay bar, layouts and ticks
  • Manual backtesting and sessions — costs, order lifecycle, reading the report
  • The AI assistant — spec cards, trades, stability readings, credits
  • Strategies and indicators — keep the rule, version it, export it
